Hope

Hope is very important in life. With hope you can make all the things you want in your life because it gives you confidence. In my opinion hope is the most important theme for "The Freedom Writers Diary" because thanks of this we can see how many students succeed. In the book it shows how at the beginning Ms. Gruwell was very hopeful even though people didn't trust in her students. This caused that their student get confidence and could reach all their goals. Some students didn't have hope at the start, but thanks of Ms. Gruwell they could gain confidence and hope. There are some examples of students that didn't believe in Ms. Gruwell, but then they started to like her, and say that she is very good and changed their opinions. Hope is a theme that appears in this book and is very important for its developing.

Adversity

Adversity is a daily life theme. We confront adversity all the times. At home, school with your friends, etc. We have to deal with it, but we also have to overcome adversity. In the book "The freedom writers diary" adversity is a main topic. We can see how the freedom writers have to deal with many situation that for other people could be very difficult to deal with. This is an example of overcoming adversity, they are treated as different people, as non normal people. It can be also seen how Ms. Gruwell deals with adversity. In the book is shown how people didn't support Ms. Gruwell, but she always knew that her students were able to do everything.Her confidence, give their students confidence and like this all could overcome adversity. Adversity is a curse if you don have self confidence because you cant overcome the adverse situations. In the other hand if you have confidense and you can overcome the bad situations, adversity will become a blessing. It will give strenght to overcome any future situations and gain confidence for doing things you want to do.

Self-reliance

In the book "The freedom writers diary" we could read, how Ms. Gruwell class read the self-reliance of Emerson. In my opinion self-reliance is a very important characteristics because it gives you confidence. It is basically to trust in yourself, to know that you are able to do anything you want. With this you can know that there are no chances for success. That you have to be perseverant with thinks you want, never give up. Also it teaches to strengthen your weakness, to be strong even though bad things happens. If you are weak find your weakness and then work for it to be a thing in favor. In these reading I could learn how to get things I want. This give me confidence for overtaking all kind of situations. The book shows how Ms. Gruwell tries to teach self reliance to her students. She wants them to know that the can do anything. If people tell them they are not able for doing something, she says to them that they could do it because they are very strong for doing anything. In my opinion is the most important teaching that Ms. Gruwell  can give her students.

Tolerance and acceptance

In the book "The freedom writers" tolerance plays a role for de developing of the story. In the book we can see the differences between races, white people only talk with white people, black people with blacks people, etc. This show how intolerant are the freedom writers because they dont interact with people from different races. This intolerance causes all the crimes, the fights and the problems that the freedom writers have to deal with. Acceptance also plays an important role beacause the acceptance of a group or a gang is important for the characters. In the movie we could saw how some kids were pride when they tell them that they are criminals. This fight for acceptance causes the creation of big groups that fight against the other groups. This causes a tense situation for the characters for all this things and some more is why Ms. Gruwell want to help the freedom writers.

Fear

Fear plays an important role in people's life. Sometimes fear makes you take decision that are correct or wrong. In the Freedom Writers Diary, we can see how fear its a very important characteristics for the freedom writers. In my opinion the decisions that the freedom writers make beacuse of fear are mostly wrong. We can see almost all time how they enter gangs, buy guns and make bad things aonly for fear. This fear make them to be criminals, or start to enter to diferent groups. In my opinion they enter to these groups because they need protection, they have fear of being killed or blasted. This fear has caused also different situation, for example we could read how a girls bought a gun beacuse she had fear of  being killed. Thats why I think fear is very important for the developing of the book because fear will make the freedom writers take decisions that are important for the book.
